2012 Viennese Opera Ball Halifax, Nova Scotia

On Saturday, April 13th, 2013, Halifax Dance returns to the World Trade & Convention Centre to recreate the magic of our Viennese Opera Ball. The event is our largest and highest profile fundraising initiative planned for 2013 and will mark the 2nd annual event of its kind. Building on the foundation of our 2012 event and continuing to honour traditional Austrian cultural customs, we promise a glamorous and romantic evening full of excitement, delight and wonder.  This spectacular event will showcase the highest quality of art our great city has to offer. We invite you to join our guest list of many attendees including leading corporations and businesses, Government Officials and special guests.

As a guest of the Viennese Opera Ball, you will revel in a memorable experience that is steeped in elegance and cultural tradition. Ignite your senses as each one is tempted with incredible food, fine wine, unforgettable music, outstanding live performances and unlimited dancing.  Starting with a champagne cocktail reception, you will then be trumpeted into dinner to savour your extraordinary menu featuring the best of Atlantic Canadian and Austrian cuisine.  Following your meal, the Viennese Ball will mesmerize with live musical accompaniment from Symphony Nova Scotia, and you will enjoy exceptional performances by celebrated artists in dance, music and opera.

Among those celebrities, you will be riveted by performances by headlining guests including dancers from The National Ballet of Canada, escorted by ballet icon Rex Harrington and Canadian opera sensations, Allison Angelo and Jason Robert Davis, among others. Keeping with the magic of a modern fairy tale brought to life, members of The Halifax Dance Young Company and the Princess Louise Fusiliers will return as young Debutantes and Cavaliers in the esteemed opening processional waltz and polonaise.  As the evening unfolds, you will have the chance to dance the night away to the ever popular band, The Classics, as they return to the stage in honor of our event. Please stay tuned for the announcement of our additional special guest performers.

HISTORY: THE MAGIC OF THE VIENNA OPERA BALL

The Vienna Opera Ball evokes breathtaking images – the rustling of ball gowns, fiery musicians and the glitter of the grandest of ballrooms. The entire dance floor is awhirl at the rhythm of a Viennese Waltz, hundreds of couples, all in a synchronized movement and the sparkle of a tiara make for an unforgettable close to the Viennese carnival season.

The tradition of the Vienna Opera Ball (Opernball) dates back to 1877 when Emperor Franz Joseph I deemed that ballrooms be inclusive of the wider community and that their events be an impetus for economic and tourist growth. Since then, hundreds of balls are hosted across Austria every year, but the Vienna Opernball is considered to be the social highlight of the season. Attended by royalty, dignitaries, socialites, and celebrities, the Opernball epitomizes the luxury, elegance and distinguished culture of Vienna.

Glamour from the days of old combined with renowned artists and invited guests, make the Vienna Opera Ball a spectacle to behold. Today it remains one of the most sought after tickets in the world.
